Effect of Aloe vera methanolic extract IP injection on immunological and hematological markers in Beluga ( Huso huso) fish.

The effect of Aloe vera extract 100 and 200 mg/kg intraperitoneal (IP) injections on immunological and hematological markers in Beluga fish are described. Compared with values found in IP saline controls, results suggested that both doses of Aloe vera enhanced serum lysozyme 1, 2 and 4 weeks after injection. Alternative complement pathway (ACH50) values increased 1 week after 100 mg/kg and 3 weeks after 200 mg/kg injections. IP injection of 100 mg/kg Aloe vera extract increased total WBC and lymphocyte counts compared with fish injected 200 mg/kg or saline controls. Hemoglobin and hematocrit values were elevated compared with saline controls at all times after injection of 100 or 200 mg/kg Aloe vera extract. Results suggest that A. vera methanolic extract may have increased innate humoral and cellular responses in Beluga fish.
