We describe effects of gonadotropins and frozen-thawed media on ewe oocytes and zygotes. Oocytes were collected from sheep ovaries during non-breeding season for culture in media with 0.02 lU/mL pituitary, 0.075 lU/mL recombinant and/or 10 lU/mL chorionic gonadotropins or in frozen-thawed media for zygotes. Our results showed that embryo cleavage in P-FSH (61.1%) was lower (P<0.05) than rFSH-rLH (77.5%) and eCG-hCG (79.6%) We found no difference with blastocysts between pituitary (21.1%), recombinant(17.3%) and chorionic (20.5%) gonadotropins. Concerning 6 month storage and thawing our findings suggest that fresh or frozen storage media had no effect on blastocyst in P-FSH (21.1%), rFSH-rLH (17.3%) or eCG-hCG (20.5%), cleavage 73.2, 73.9, 77.4 or 78.2%, morula 42.0 44.3, 42.8 and 48.2% or in blastocysts 17.7, 17.1, 18.2 and 18.5%, respectively. We find that non-pituitary gonadotropins and frozen-thawed culture media supports subsequent embryonic development.
