Hunan Chuangyuan Aluminum Co., Ltd on February 18 put its newly-built anode carbon project with capacity of 160,000tpy into production, source from the company said. The investment in the project is 580 million yuan. The project is expected to bring 420 million yuan of industrial production value per year. Located at Taoyuan county of Hunan province, Hunan Chuangyuan. Aluminum is capable of producing 115,000tpy of primary aluminum. Construction of the smelter began in June 2002 and the smelter equipped with 240kA pre-baked cell came on stream in April 2003. Like other Chinese aluminum smelters, the company is also hit by the high alumina price and it has been running below its full capacity in recent two years.
