Experts, attendees connect at Orlando ergo event: Work safety ideas, riveting speakers and dozens of exhibits highlight AEC: Work safety ideas, riveting speakers and dozens of exhibits highlight AEC
A renewed focus on workplace safety and adapting to changing employee needs were common themes at the 25th Applied Ergonomics Conference March 21-24 in Orlando, Florida, the first held on-site since 2019. Ergonomists shared their best ideas while celebrating their vital roles keeping workers safe in an age of remote work and evolving technology. Through it all, the collaborative process helped workers endure disruptions. "The workforce really has been amazing. We told them to just keep working and they did. It's something to be proud of" said Tami Blackwell, senior consultant of BSI group, in her presentation, "The Pandemic Through Ergonomic Eyes." Four keynote speakers over two days offered a varied approach on ergonomics from different perspectives. Bobbie Watts, director of ergonomics for Michelin Americas and presidentelect of the Applied Ergonomics Society, discussed the need to address diversity and inclusion and "be intentional" in developing safety programs that address workers' differences across generations and backgrounds. "You have to meet people where they are, and so with different generations, they're going to have different ways that they work," Watts said during a Problem Solved podcast break.
