Dermal substitution in burns: Invited commentary on 'the roles of topical negative pressure in deep burn wounds treated by dermal substitution'

We would like to thank colleagues Wang and Han for their suggestions on the working mechanism of topical negative pressure (TNP) in combination with dermal substitution. We agree with these authors that the exact working mechanism of TNP and the effect on wound healing are not fully understood, as we also stated in the introduction of our paper on this subject.1 As Dr. Greenhalgh in his editorial comment on this paper also expressed some concern on the working mechanism and interpretation of the results of this trial, we would like to take this opportunity to clarify this further.
