Gold in sight for Silvertown bidders

An international line-up has been shortlisted by Transport for London (TfL) for a L1bn contract to build one of the UK's biggest road tunnels at Silvertown in east London. The bidders are Cintra Global, which is a subsidiary of Spanish giant Ferrovial; the public private partnerships division at German construction behemoth Hochtief; and a joint venture between Sweden's Skanska and Austrian outfit Strabag. Leon Daniels, managing director of surface transport at TfL, said: 'It's great to see such a strong shortlist of bidders to design, finance, build, and maintain the new Silvertown Tunnel.
