In my last article I spoke about the Annual Engineers Inspection (AEI) we have carried out; this article will now expand a little more on the AEI in terms of how we have started to use the information, how work is prioritised through value management and how this is informing and improving our approach to lifecycle planning. One of the initial benefits of the AEI survey is that information has been shared with the highway maintenance staff. So, when they receive public enquiries or are carrying out safety inspections, they have an understanding of where any given section of highway falls in terms of recommended treatment and the likely timescales (based on current funding levels). This is particularly useful when talking to members, customers and stakeholders.
