Traffic flow gets into the smart loop

Siemens Mobility's Plus+ traffic control solution uses innovative technology to allow the signal switching and safety elements of a traffic control system to be moved away from the local controller and distributed around the intersection. The system has already been deployed on a number of sites across the UK, with others at various stages of design and installation. Early analysis of potential Plus+ sites quickly identified that for many projects the system would yield significant reductions in the cabling needed to support the traffic signals. However, where loop detectors were required large numbers of individual cables would still be needed to connect the loops back to the controller. In extreme cases, more individual cables would be needed to support the loops than would be used to support the traffic signalling infrastructure.
