Retrofitting flood resilience

Dunstable is a large market town in Bedfordshire that is particularly susceptible to surface water flooding, partly because there has been so much urban expansion in the town centre and a heavy reliance on piped drainage.In 2016, significant rainfall resulted in a number of businesses and homes being flooded and severe traffic disruption. Dunstable's busy high street is relatively constrained, with shops either side of the road, parking, street furniture and four-way lights. It is also the route of a major road, the A5, which runs through the centre of the town, bringing high levels of congestion.
