Duo bag ￡39m A-roads deal

Consultants AECOM and Atkins have bagged consultancy deals with Highways England worth a total of ￡39m to work on a nationwide four-year programme to upgrade the concrete surface on motorways and major A roads.The awards for the duo cover design, supervision and project management services and mark the start of a ￡400m programme to repair and replace 600 miles of existing concrete roads.Highways England plans to award a further two contacts under the Concrete Roads Programme this year. One will cover Lifecycle Extension Works: a specialist contractor contract worth ￡67m will deliver specialist repairs to maximise the life of the existing concrete pavement.
