Indian chilli exports recover as overall spice sales double

A SURGE in chilli shipments in April and May has virtually doubled the total export of Indian spices to 66 130 tonnes worth INR4.2 billion (US93.2 million dollar), from 31210 tonnes valued at INR2.6 billion (US57.3 million dollar) for the same two months in 2003. Chilli exports rose to 27 000 tonnes worth INR1.01 billion for the two months under review, compared with 8 000 tonnes valued at INR320 million during the same two months last year, according to Spices Board sources.
