2021 MAY 05 (NewsRx) - By a News Reporter-Staff News Editor at Disease Prevention Daily - Fresh data on Opioids - Prescription Opioids are presented in a new report. According to news originating from Grand Forks, North Dakota, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, "Cancer patients on chemotherapy are at risk for developing febrile neutropenia and infections. Opioids have been associated with immune suppression and risk of infection." Our news journalists obtained a quote from the research from the University of North Dakota, "We aimed to investigate opioid use associated with infections and death among cancer patients admitted with febrile neutropenia. A total of 481 patients admitted for chemotherapy-induced febrile neutropenia were reviewed. There were 274 patients with opioid prescriptions (OP) within 10 days of hospitalization and 207 patients without opioid prescriptions (NOP) for >1 year of hospitalization.
