Concerns have been expressed that the presentation of the adult social care precept on council tax bills could leave residents confused. The Government is understood to have issued various suggested wordings and kept almost 400 councils waiting for clarity. In the absence of the Government specifying the wording to use in a timely manner, finance directors were forced to decide for themselves. One finance director wrote last week: 'The wording we've decided on avoids the use of words like "levy" and "precept", which are incorrect. 'We have to decide now because it's clear the Government isn't going to sort out its mess this week and we need to start the printing and billing process.'
