May you live in interesting times is a Chinese blessing which is increasingly bandied about by us westerners in reference to our own increasingly complex society which conducts its business at an alarmingly frenetic pace. On this particular small island it could be said that we live in congested times as our society attempts to deal with the commercial and civic demands made of a transport infrastructure which was conceived in a more genteel era.
