India looks to UK road specialists to build and maintain network

India is looking to UK contractors to help build and maintain the 22,000kms of roads due to begin construction by March 2011. India and UK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the road transport and highways sector which allows both countries to exchange information and best practice in the areas of motor vehicle testing, driver training and delivering and maintaining of highway networks. Indian Road Minister Shri Nath was in London last month where he urged UK companies to get involved in road construction across the country He detailed the rapid progress made in India's highways development programme during the first year of his government with the award of 118 projects for a length of 7,500 km.
