Scotland seems to be setting the pace in a number of areas. 1. English local authorities looking to implement SUDS in new developments thanks to the Flood and Water Management Act may find the 'SUDS for Roads'guide from SEA helpful. 2. 'Designing Streets' which followed up from Manual for Streets is now published. In a linked initiative Scotland aims to create 11 new sustainable communities. Local people will be invited to shape plans for extensions in Aberdeen and Lochgelly, for instance, lead by US architect Andres Duany. Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, said "This combination has the potential to put Scotland at the forefront of new approaches to planning."
