Outsourcing cuts accidents by one third

"I often meet families who have been affected by road collisions. The pain in the faces of those individuals is visible years after the incident. That's what drives me to do everything I can to tackle road safety." So says Basil Jackson, Assistant Director for Highways and Transportation at Central Bedfordshire Council. After leading a move to outsource the authority's road safety education and publicity (ETP) to Amey in 2010, he has reduced costs by 10 per cent and seen reductions in every kind of road collision, including a 30 per cent reduction in KSIs (killed or seriously injured).
