A revised version of 'Safety at street works and roadworks: a code of practice 2013' was released by the Department for Transport (DfT) on 1 October 2013. Known informally as the 'safety code' or the 'red book', it comes into force on 1 October 2014 and provides updated guidance on safe working at street works and roadworks sites. The previous version has been around for the past 12 years and needed to be brought in line with the latest requirements and considerations for the safety of the public and the workforce.
