摘要

Opened in 1982, this cable-stayed bridge carries the A9 trunk road across the Beauly Firth, an inlet of the Moray Firth, in the north of Scotland. The 1,056 metre long continuous steel deck superstructure, with a main span of 240m, comprises two-lane dual carriageways in both directions carrying some 30,000 vehicles each day, including a high volume of HGV traffic, and a pedestrian/cycle lane on each side. Growing traffic volumes and increased vehicle load had started to take their toll on the surfacing and Transport Scotland let a main contract for the £13.2m repairs to Balfour Beatty, with specialist subcontractor, Stirling Lloyd Construction appointed to carry out all preparation, bridge deck waterproofing and resurfacing.
