Stamping out graffiti

Graffiti is a controversial topic which has long been debated as a nuisance to society and something that can have a damaging effect on the local environment. But perhaps one of the areas of most concern is the graffiti which has become prolific on our highways which causes public outrage but, more importantly, can distract the attention of the motorist. Graffiti has been around for thousands of years, dating back to the Romans who wrote on the walls of buildings they conquered and cave men who drew illustrations on cave walls. Graffiti in the more traditional sense that we are familiar with today, first became popular in the 1970s in New York when graffiti artists began decorating the subway. At the time there was great debate regarding whether this was a work of art or blatant vandalism and, in some respects, this type of graffiti did change many landscapes from dirty, grimy areas into incredible art galleries.
