OTO Melara 76mm Guided Projectile

Several European navies have expressed interest in a guided projectile for the widely used OTO Melara 76mm naval gun. Two teams have been developing projectiles for this role, an OTO Melara/British Aerospace team with CCS (Course-Correctable Shell) and Diehl/Signaal with CORAS (Correctable Ammunition System). The systems use a correctable course projectile with most of the guidance features being handled by the ship fire control system. In 2002, OTO Melara showed a revised version of the CCS under the new name Dart, part of the Davide weapon system, also now known as Strales in its export form. Dart is also being offered in a modified form for 127mm (six inch) guns and 155mm army artillery. In recent years, the guidance approach has been changed to a hybrid GPS/SAL system under the name Vulcano. The company plans to have the full range of guided munitions in production around 2016. General Dynamics has teamed with OTO Melara to market the ammunition to the US Navy.
