TURKEY is defying the general European slowdown in fruit juices and nectars consumption, according to the Liquid Fruit Market Report, released by the AIJN. Turkey managed growth of 8.7% in 2011, lifting its annual juice and nectars consumption to 678million litres from 624 million litres, at a time when Europe (the EU-27, plus Turkey, Switzerland and Norway) saw consumption fall by 2.2% to 7.037 billion litres (2010: 7.170 billion litres). Both private label and branded sales suffered, pretty much equally: 2.2% down for private label and 2.3% down for branded.
