The RBS-15 is a turbojet powered antiship missile developed for Swedish navy requirements in the early 1980s. It is deployed in ship-launched, aircraft-launched and coastally launched versions. The first production missiles were delivered in 1984 and the system became operational in 1985. Saab developed a precision-guided air-to-surface version, the RBS-15 AMIK for the British CASOM requirement, but has not pursued this program. The RBS-15 was a losing contender for the UK Royal Navy's Surface-to-Surface Guided Weapon requirement. A new variant, the RBS-15 Mk 3 entered production in 2000. The Swedish navy has studied a submarine launched land attack version. Besides the Swedish navy, it has been acquired by Finland, Germany, Poland, and Yugoslavia (now in Croatian service). Algeria is now acquiring frigates that are likely to be armed with the RBS-15.
