Hydro halts Paragominas operation

Norwegian aluminium producer Norsk Hydro has halted production at its Paragominas bauxite mine in Brazil to carry out extended maintenance on the pipeline that transports bauxite from the mine to the Alunorte alumina refinery. During planned maintenance work on the pipeline in the current quarter, the company discovered that a section of the pipeline had deteriorated more quickly than expected and so has extended the maintenance period. Operations at the mine are expected to recommence within two months.
