MULTI-TIER VS FLAT DECK:Housing research was unveiled at Pig & Poultry Fair

Stockmanship has more of an impact upon the health and welfare of hens that the style of housing system used, according to new research. Delegates at the British Pig & Poultry Fair heard about the findings of the first UK independent survey into the economic and welfare benefits of flat-deck and multi-tier free-range egg production systems.The research was funded by the Scottish Government, with input from British Free Range Producers Association (BFREPA) members. The Scottish Rural University College (SRUC) and ADAS worked with 42 flocks over a 12-month period.
