Metal futures: US-China tensions weigh on market

Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange (LME) led the decline in Friday;s official morning session as tensions between the US and China escalated, with the complex failing to draw support from a weak dollar and positive economic data. The three-month LME copper contract fell by 1.9pc to $6,389.50/t. In the US, Comex’s next most active month copper contract dropped by 1.6pc to $2.89/lb. The bellwether metal has lost 0.4pc since closing on 17 July.
