SciLabware are pleased to announce that the PYREX brand is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2015. Before becoming a registered trademark in 1915, PYREX borosilicate glass was developed for use in railroad lanterns in the early years of the 20th century to satisfy the demand for a material with high thermal resistance. Winter's cold air, against heat from the lantern flame was causing the glass the shatter. Corning Glass Works would soon solve this problem, with the development of the successful low-expansion glass we know today as PYREX.
