First Cat gas engines ship out

Five Caterpillar G3516 gas engines-the first of the breed - have been shipped from the company's plant in Lafayette, Indiana, to Hamburg where they will be installed on the Becker Marine Systems subsidiary, Hybrid Port Energy, LNG-Hybrid Barge. The G3516 is a spark-ignited gas engine, specially designed to work in commercial vessel applications. The base engine is a land-based Cat G3516C Island Mode genset engine, with vee-16 configuration, offering 1,550kWe at 1,500 rpm. The fuel system is an inlet fumigated low-pressure gas system, capable of operating at 100% power with gas qualities down to Methane Nr70.
