FCM検査の結果解釈に必要なこと

Flow cytometry (FCM) is essential for the diagnosis of various hematological malignancies. By evaluating several markers of tumors, FCM is useful to determine the disease type classification, such as acute leukemia and malignant lymphoma, and can also be applied to minimal residual disease assessment for the subset of diseases. In addition to the diagnosis of hematological malignancies, FCM is also used for lymphocyte subset analysis, identification of hematopoietic stem cells, and determination of CD55/CD59 expression for the diagnosis of paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria. It is considered that a significant number of hospitals do not conduct FCM analysis in their own facilities, but outsource analysis of the clinical samples to other institutions. Nevertheless, it may be important for all medical staff, especially medical doctors as well as clinical laboratory technicians, to have knowledge on how to appropriately interpret FCM results. In this joint symposium, 4 valuable cases will be presented. Prior to that, this session will discuss basic knowledge on how to interpret FCM results, which will be easy to understand even for beginners. Also, typical FCM profiles of representative hematological malignancies, which were diagnosed in our hospital, will be presented. [Review]
