Emirates doubles fleet

After tripling profits from $325 million in 2008-09 to $1.1 billion in 2009-10, premier global airline carrier Emirates Group has placed orders worth $48 billion to buy 146 new aircraft to double its capacity in 2010-11, a company official said. The carrier currently has a fleet of 145 aircraft which connect Dubai with 103 destinations in 62 countries. The airline also plans to launch five new routes from Dubai, besides the two it has already started this year: Tokyo and Amsterdam.
