Six months versus 12 months dual antiplatelet therapy after drug-eluting stent implantation in ST elevation myocardial infarction (DAPT-STEMI)
Study question Is six months non-inferior to 12 months of dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) after implantation with second generation drug-eluting stents in patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI)? Methods The trial population consisted of patients with STEMI aged 18 to 85 who underwent a primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with the implantation of a second generation drug-eluting stent. Patients with STEMI who were event-free and given DAPT for six months were randomised 1:1 to single antiplatelet therapy (SAPT; that is, aspirin only) or to DAPT for an additional six months. The trial enrolled 1100 patients, and 870 were randomised. The primary endpoint was a composite of all cause mortality, any myocardial infarction, any revascularisation, stroke, orthrombolysis in myocardial infarction major bleeding at 18 months after randomisation.
