Relative movements of machine parts were for a long time conceived exclusively on a slideway basis. Antifriction bearings now having established themselves as a new standard, it was obvious to use this method also for linear movements instead of slideways. Meanwhile, ball bearing linear guideways have become indispensable as machine elements.
