China’s cemented carbide production in the first half of thisyear is estimated to have fallen by around 6pc from a yearearlier to 17,000t because of lower consumption caused bythe Covid-19 pandemic, according to the country’s cementedcarbide association.China produced 36,500t of cemented carbide in 2019, downby 5.19pc from 38,500t in 2018. Cemented carbide is a keydownstream sector for tungsten, consuming 60-65pc of totaltungsten production. Its properties see cemented carbideused as cutting tools and drilling bits in many industries,including the automotive, aviation, mining, and oil and gasdrilling sectors.
