The automotive sector is the major driver for the tungsten market, representing around 25pc of demand — as tungsten carbide in machining applications. But the sector has been hard hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Automotive production in the US could fall by as much as 1.3mn vehicles in 2021 because of semiconductor shortages that could last for another six months, according to an industry group.
