The Past and the Present of Medical Cannabis in Neurology and Psychiatry

The use of cannabis is medicine has a very long history. It probably dates back to the age of first written documents of humanity. From ancient Greece to Jewish antiquity, there has been an everlasting consumption, through a variety of routes of the cannabis plant and products. Although ignoring the chemical composition and pharmacological actions, several famous physicians of ancient times praised some of the qualities of cannabis.With the large debates of marijuana decriminalization for recreational use, the voices in favor of a full citizenship of cannabis in the pharmacology have gone even louder. An increasing number of countries are providing cannabis products in pharmacies and tetrahydrocannabinol with other cannabinoids are licensed for diverse medical conditions, under different trade names.
