German new car registrations at post-unification low

New passenger car registrations in Germany have hit the lowest monthly level since the country's reunification in 1990. Covid-19-related curfews and closed car showrooms drove a 61pc year-on-year drop in new registrations in April compared with a year earlier. A total of 120,840 new cars were registered last month, of which 58pc were commercial and 42pc were private vehicles, according to data from the federal motor transport authority. Gasoline-powered cars accounted for half of the new registrations in April, while diesel cars made up 32pc.
