Rusal secures Taishet Al smelter funding

Russian aluminium producer Rusal has secured funding to start production at its long-planned Taishet aluminium smelter in Siberia, which will commence operations later this year. The Taishet smelter has been in development for well over a decade, first seeing delays due to low aluminium prices and then later due to US sanctions against the company. The capacity of the first start-up complex will be 428,500 t/ yr of aluminium produced using local hydropower, with up to 80pc of production slated for value-added products like billets and rolling slabs.
