As BP searches for oil and gas in ever deeper water across the globe, the company is teaming advanced seismic imaging technology with the power of super-computing to unlock the hard-to-find reserves. The oil major is using its Wide Azimuth Towed Streamer (WATS) imaging capability and the power of its new super-computer centre in Houston to map prospects deep below the ocean surface. One area BP is currently targeting is offshore Nova Scotia in Canada, where the company holds four exploration licences-2431, 2432, 2433 and 2434. The blocks together comprise an area of almost 14,000km~2. They are situated approximately 300km off the Nova Scotia coast, southeast of Halifax, in water depths ranging from 100-3,000m.
