BP CEO urges sector to embrace ‘complexity’ of energy transition

The oil and gas industry must see the energy transition as a chance to embrace complexity and diversify what it does rather than seeing threats and “shadows around every corner,” BP CEO Bernard Looney said June 1 after a series of blows to the sector by environmental activists. In comments to industry group Oil & Gas UK, Looney said the UK’s North Sea oil and gas industry has an opportunity to lead “from the front” through measures like electrification of offshore installations with renewable power.
