Pandemic delaying Peru Buenaventura San Gabriel gold project

Peruvian precious and base metals producer Buenaventura said April 30 its $370 million-$430 million San Gabriel gold-silver project continues to face permitting delays. Buenaventura, which regards San Gabriel as its “most important project,” has seen slow progress on prior consultation hearings due to COVID-19 protocols, project manager Renzo Macher said on a firstquarter conference cal. “What’s holding us up is the construction permit, mainly the social part,” Macher said. “But we see from discussions with the government that there’s an interest in pushing the project forward. Social distancing measures haven’t played in our favor lately. Our best guess is that we’re going to have the construction permit in the second half.”
