The Canadian government has begun soliciting proposals for engineering studies that can help advance clean energy technologies like carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) as it tries to balance its commitment to reducing emissions with the needs of its oil and gas sector. The call for “expressions of interest” in CCUS development came on Monday, the same day an alarming new UN report warned of impending global climate catastrophe if countries don’t take immediate action to rein in greenhouse gas emissions (OD Aug.9’21).
