Senators Vote to Thwart Future Fracking Ban

The US Senate on Tuesday voted on a GOP-led amendment to the Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget resolution to bar any sort of ban on hydraulic fracturing. The amendment, offered by US Sen. Kevin Cramer (R-North Dakota), passed 57-42, with six Democrats — largely from energy-producing states — voting in favor of the measure: Sens. Martin Heinrich (New Mexico), Ben Ray Lujan (New Mexico), Jon Tester (Montana), John Hickenlooper (Colorado), Michael Bennet (Colorado), and Bob Casey (Pennsylvania), as well as Independent Angus King (Maine), who caucuses with Democrats.
