摘要

While the Biden administration's overarching plans for allowing access to federal territory for gas drilling are still coalescing, some policy signals are starting to emerge suggesting the administration may be content with retaining sizable limits on new leasing.President Joe Biden's Interior Department has sought to make the case that there is ample acreage available under active leases, lessening the necessity of offering new leasing, and recent remarks from Interior officials suggest that the department might just let the clock run out on existing leases. At the same time, the administration recently released documents underpinning its long-awaited plans for conserving 30% of federal lands by 2030,which remains somewhat nebulous but could provide justification for fresh drilling restrictions in certain areas.
