European coal imports drop to 32-year low

EU thermal coal imports hit their lowest in 32 years in 2020. Weak December receipts left full-year 2020 imports into the EU 27 and UK at 53.57mn t, the lowest since 1988 and down from 88.1mn t in 2019. In December, net EU 27 imports fell by 1.9mn t on the year to 4.8mn t, Eurostat fgures show — the largest annual decline since August, the lowest December receipt since 1988, and 961,000t down on November.
