Steel industry courts tokyo’s carbon policy

Japan’s steel industry has renewed its pledge towards pro- duction of zero-carbon steel and contribute to the country’s eforts to realise a decarbonised society by 2050. Industry group the Japan iron and steel federation (JISF) said on 15 February it commits to carbon dioxide (CO2) reduc- tion in steel production in support of Tokyo’s 2050 decarboni- sation goal. The group has brought forward its earlier target set in 2018 to reduce CO2 emissions from steel production by 30pc by 2050 and complete commercialisation of zero-carbon steel technology by 2100.
