BIOFUELS - Marking a key milestone for Asia, Singapore Airlines operated its first flight on sustainable biofuel from San Francisco to Singapore under a three-month program that will power flight SQ31 with a blend of biofuel and conventional jet fuel. The flight that departed on May 1 from the West Coast took place on the carrier’s 70th anniversary. SkyNRG, China Aviation Oil (CAO) and Epic Fuels cooperated to realize the program, which is geared toward raising awareness about biofuels in Singapore and demonstrating the logistics and performance of biofuels for the avia- tion industry at large. Singapore hopes to adopt the regular use of sus- tainable aviation biofuel in the country over the longer term. North America Fuel Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of CAO, cooperated with SkyNRG to procure fuel made from used cooking oil and sup- plied by AltAir Fuels. “We are delighted to participate in Singapore Airlines’ first biofuel flight. CAO’s key strategic objective is to become a niche player in future sustainable transportation fuels. This first biofuel transaction marks CAO Group’s maiden contribution to a sustainable and healthy aviation future, further validating our com- mitment to a sustainable and healthy environment in the global avia- tion arena,” said CAO’s chief executive officer Meng Fanqui.
