摘要

Diabetic nephropathy remains a common complication of diabetes. Genetic aetiology of diabetes-related kidney disease has recently been investigated,1 and several urinary biomark-ers for the prediction of the development of diabetic nephropathy have been identified2; however, prognostic markers which can be used in clinical practice are limited. Liver-type fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP), which is expressed in hepatocytes and the proximal tubules of the kidney, has been reported to be involved in fatty acid metabolism and has attracted attention as a biological marker for identifying and predicting a decline in renal function.3 Several studies have demonstrated that L-FABP is a promising biomarker for cardiovascular disease as well as diabetic nephropathy in persons with type 1 and type 2 diabetes (T2DM).
