100 years ZAMM, zeitschrift für angewandte mathematik und mechanik 25 years managing editor for applied mathematics in ZAMM

In 1973, ProfessorHelmuth Heinrich (1904-1997) resigned from his position as chief editor of ZAMM, whichwas published at the University of Technology Dresden until then. At the same time, the Academy of Sciences of the GDR (Akademie der Wissenschaften-AdW) planned to install new autonomous Institutes of AppliedMathematics, Theoretical Mechanics and Operations Research in the Zentralinstitut für Mathematik und Mechanik (ZIMM) next to an Institute of Mathematics. Considering these aspects, there were special interests in settling the editorial staff of the ZAMM at the new Institut für Angewandte Mathematik und Mechanik (IAMM) and after that at the Institute of Mechanics (IMech) which then was established under the leadership of Professor Klaus Hennig, who kept this position until 1988. Finally, the IMech settled to Karl-Marx-Stadt, now Chemnitz, in 1988 under the leadership of Professor Hubert Günther from the Ingenieur- Hochschule at Zwickau. Even after settling the IMech in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1973, the redaction office at first remained in Berlin and later on in Potsdam. For several years, this was at Hausvogtei-Platz in the center of Berlin. The Institutes of Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Mechanics and a computing center were placed in an extra building. Later on, it changed its location to the AdWCampus in Berlin-Adlershof until 1991, when the AdWwas dissolved. Beginning in 1992, ZAMM's redaction office belonged to the Mathematical Institute of the Potsdam University and was settled at first in the center, later on at the University Campus in Potsdam-Babelsberg until the last years of the twentieth century. To stay in or close to Berlin at this time was advantageous for the contact to the publishing house (the Akademie-Verlag for a long time) which was also set up in Berlin.
