Union brands 14,000 pounds fine for major trench collapse 'paltry'

A Fife construction company has been hit with a "paltry" fine after a worker was engulfed in tonnes of earth when a 2.7m deep trench collapsed on him. Wallace Roofing and Building was fined 14,000 pounds on 9 May over its failure to "step back" or shore the sides of the excavation, which was dug during the renovation of a house in Falkland, a village in Fife.
