STRONGER TOGETHER

Tim Bieri, President of NACE International, and Joyce A. Wright, President of SSPC, USA, elaborate on the planned merger between NACE and SSPC, to form a new association for corrosion and coatings professionals. Technological advances in pipeline protection made significant strides in the 1930s with cathodic protection(CP) technology used extensively to control corrosion on underground pipelines. Corrosion engineering professionals wanted to establish standard procedures for CP systems to advance corrosion control technologies and increase public safety. They felt a dedicated organisation would serve their needs and in 1943 eleven pipeliners in Houston, Texas formed the National Association of Corrosion Engineers (today's NACE International).
